AP® Biology

All Genders Course; Prerequisite - Successful completion of one year of high school Chemistry or permission from the administration; Full Year Course

Course Overview

AP® Biology is an introductory college-level life science course designed for students interested in pursuing STEM disciplines in college. The goal of the course is to help students develop a framework for understanding the natural world through the lens of evolution. Students explore biochemistry, cellular processes, genetics, evolution, and ecology. In addition to the core content, emphasis is placed on inquiry, the scientific method, experimental design, and data analysis. Throughout the year, students engage with the course content authentically through hands-on labs, case studies, and simulations. Formal assessments are written to evaluate critical thinking and analysis, rather than rote memorization. AP Biology prepares students for the AP® Biology Exam in May.

“My teacher is always willing to help, is quick in responses to emails, includes relevant information all the time (new podcasts to listen to, photos from museums she recently visited, etc ...), is interested in my pursuits outside of school, and offers great feedback on assignments.”
