    The Assistant Head of School for Academics at One Schoolhouse serves as the Chief Academic Officer, playing a pivotal role in shaping the academic vision and maintaining excellence in online learning. This individual ensures that One Schoolhouse offers best-in-class, student-centered courses that meet the evolving needs of the independent school community while embodying the organization's commitment to forward-thinking pedagogy and innovative practices.

They are passionate about creating exceptional online academic experiences and leading a faculty dedicated to student growth, inclusivity, and engagement.

    Key Responsibilities
    Lead Our Learning Vision

    • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the entire academic program, ensuring alignment with One Schoolhouse’s mission and commitment to excellence.

    • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous refinement of a dynamic online curriculum that meets the needs of independent schools and incorporates inclusive and innovative teaching practices.

    • Collaborate closely with academic leaders and faculty to create a learning environment that models best practices, including the integration of cutting-edge educational tools and a strong focus on Generative AI.

    • Stay attuned to trends and developments in both the independent school sector and the online learning landscape, applying new insights to enhance program offerings.

    Support Our Faculty and Academic Administrators

    • Lead, manage, and evaluate a dedicated team of full-time academic administrators and support a broader network of 75 part-time faculty.

    • Cultivate a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that empowers faculty to excel and fosters professional growth.

    • Oversee an exceptional online learning program, ensuring that it operates with integrity and to high academic standards.

    • Partner with the Association for Academic Leaders to align goals and develop synergies between academic programs and leadership development initiatives.

    Drive Strategy with Curiosity and Data

    • Help shape the future of One Schoolhouse with thoughtful strategic planning and a love for data-driven decision-making.

    • Use insights and analytics to keep our academic offerings fresh, innovative, and student-centered.

    • Partner with senior leadership to stay ahead of trends, anticipate changes, and adapt our programs to continue delighting students and partnering effectively with schools.

    • Excellence in Academic Program Delivery: Meet and surpass key engagement and academic performance metrics, including course completion rates, partner school satisfaction, and demonstrated growth in college readiness skills.

    • Innovative Curriculum Development: Ensure that the online curriculum remains aligned with the evolving needs of independent schools, incorporating feedback from partner schools and adapting the program in response to educational trends.

    • Effective Faculty Leadership and Development: Develop and implement a robust professional development program that leads to measurable growth in faculty effectiveness, as evidenced by teaching evaluations, student feedback, and programmatic progress.

    • Data-Driven Strategic Decision-Making: Consistently use data and analytics to monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to student outcomes, course effectiveness, and faculty performance, driving continuous improvement.

    • Center School Partnerships and External Engagement: Position One Schoolhouse as a leader in online learning within the independent school community, maintaining strong relationships with existing partners and expanding the network of schools engaging with One Schoolhouse.

  • One Schoolhouse is now actively hiring teachers for our 2025-2026 academic year. Applicants who apply by January 31, 2025 will receive priority consideration. Our full course list can be found here. This year, we are particularly seeking teachers for:

    General Teacher Expectations at One Schoolhouse:
    Teachers should expect to spend time each day during the school year moderating discussions, answering questions, and adjusting assignments, with an expected time commitment of 8-10 hours per week based on an average course size of 16 students. Relationships and feedback are cornerstones of students’ success. As such, we expect that teachers are able to cultivate meaningful relationships with a diverse student body, hold weekly office hours, have a 24-hour turnaround time for communications, and provide useful feedback on all assignments within five days.

    We believe in goal-oriented growth for students, teachers, and administrators. As such, everyone at One Schoolhouse sets annual, measurable goals that allow us to cultivate and track growth over time. For teachers, One Schoolhouse provides structure, time, and space for professional development in cutting-edge practice and uses mapping tools, timelines, and rubrics to establish and evaluate growth trajectories for both courses and teachers. In collaboration with our administrative team, growth is personalized for and by each teacher so that it is self-directed and results-oriented.

    Teachers engage in work that deepens their ability to deliver competency-based, equitable, inclusive, and personalized courses. In order to do this, we are committed to hiring for and developing the competencies below.

    • 1/31/25 - Teacher interest form and resume due (priority consideration)

    • 2/7/25 - Prospective teachers notified via email whether they are invited to interview

    • 2/7/25 - Prospective teachers enrolled into interview course in Canvas to start 2/10/24

    • 2/17/25-3/13/25- Live video interview with One Schoolhouse administrators for finalists

    • 3/13/25 - Reference checks

    • 3/21/25- Accepted teachers notified of their placement on a conditional list, awaiting spring enrollment numbers and current teacher capacity (ongoing until previous teachers are off-boarded)

    • 3/31/25- 4/25/25 - New teacher online training course 

    • 6/9/25-8/1/25 - Course development for 25-26
